St. Mary’s Church, Lanesboro, will host a special Vigil Mass for the Admission to Candidacy for the Permanent Diaconate on Saturday, 5 September at 6:30pm.
The Mass marks an important step in the journey of three men as they continue their formation and discernment towards ordained ministry in the Permanent Diaconate.
The candidates are:
- Steven Donohoe – Diocese of Ardagh & Clonmacnois
- Wilker Antonio Da Costa – Diocese of Achonry & Elphin
- Richie O’Brien – Diocese of Achonry & Elphin
What is Admission to Candidacy?
Admission to Candidacy is a significant formal stage in the journey towards the Permanent Diaconate. Through this rite, the Church formally recognises the candidates’ desire and commitment to continue their preparation for ordained ministry.
Candidacy is not ordination. Rather, it marks a deeper commitment to a journey of formation, prayer, study, pastoral service and discernment. During this period, the Church continues to accompany the candidates as they prepare for the possibility of ordination as permanent deacons.
The journey to the diaconate is one of service: service to God, to the Church and to the people entrusted to the candidate’s pastoral care.
A Celebration of Vocation
The Vigil Mass will be celebrated by Most Rev. Paul Connell, Bishop of Ardagh & Clonmacnois, and Most Rev. Kevin Doran, Bishop of Achonry and Elphin.
This celebration is an opportunity for the wider Church community to come together in prayer and thanksgiving, while also praying for the three candidates as they continue their formation.
