The Diocese of Ardagh & Clonmacnois recently welcomed clergy, Local Safeguarding Representatives, youth leaders and parish volunteers to the Diocesan Safeguarding Conference 2026, held in the Temperance Hall, Longford.
The evening provided an opportunity for those involved in parish life to come together, reflect on the importance of safeguarding and consider some of the new challenges facing our communities in an increasingly digital world. The Diocese of Ardagh And Clonmacnois
A particular focus of the evening was the misuse of the internet and protecting our online reputation. Guest speaker Wayne Denner, speaker, author and entrepreneur, shared practical advice on navigating the digital world and the responsibilities that come with our growing use of online platforms.
His presentation encouraged participants to think carefully about the information we share online, how our digital presence can affect ourselves and others, and the importance of creating safer online environments for children, young people and vulnerable people.
Safeguarding is not simply about policies and procedures. It is about creating a culture where everyone is valued, respected and protected. Events such as this provide an important opportunity for people involved in parish ministry to learn, ask questions and share experiences.
The Diocese would like to thank Wayne Denner, all those who attended, and everyone who continues to play an important role in safeguarding across our parishes.
Safeguarding is a shared responsibility, and through continued training, awareness, vigilance and support, we can continue to build parish communities where everyone feels safe, welcomed and valued.
