Here in Ardagh & Clonmacnois we have a particular bond with the Diocese of Paris in the wake of the devastating fire of Notre Dame Cathedral. In this week when Christians make the journey through Holy Week- it is striking to recall that it was a Christmas Fire that engulfed St. Mel’s Cathedral in 2009. Christmas celebrates the birth of the Christ- Holy Week and Easter celebrate the reason why He was born. It took five years for St. Mel’s Cathedral to be rebuilt. While Notre Dame looked eerily like a blazing cross, present indications are that the interior has been saved.
