Mission Sunday 20th October 2019

World Mission Sunday, 20th October – Theme: Together We Are Mission.

This is the one Sunday in the year that Pope Francis asks you to pray a little stronger and dig a little deeper so that faith, hope and love can flourish. The contributions offered on this day are essential for the survival of the Church. Funds are used to build much needed church infrastructure, from chapels and clinics, to nurseries and schools, in some of the most impoverished communities in our Church family. It also supports the training and education of priests, brothers and sisters overseas. Through your support, World Mission Sunday not only helps the church to survive; it allows it to thrive by enabling local people to form and sustain communities of faith.

    EXTRAORDINARY MONTH OF MISSION PRAYER

    Heavenly Father,

when your only begotten Son Jesus Christ

    rose from the dead,

    He commissioned His followers

to ‘go and make disciples of all nations’

and you remind us that through our Baptism

we are made sharers in the mission of the Church.

Empower us by the gifts of the Holy Spirit

    to be courageous and zealous

in bearing witness to the Gospel,

so that the mission entrusted to the Church,

which is still very far from completion,

may find new and effective expressions

that bring life and light to the world.

Help us make it possible for all peoples

    to experience the saving love

    and mercy of Jesus Christ,

who lives and reigns with you

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

One God, forever and ever. Amen.

It’s 100 years since Pope Benedict XV’s encyclical Maximum Illud called Catholics to bring the Good News to all peoples (Missio Ad Gentes). To commemorate its anniversary, Pope Francis has declared October 2019 to be an Extraordinary Month of Mission (EMM2019). This special month of prayer and action calls us all to renew our missionary commitment by sharing the Good News of Jesus with all people!

Below are some real examples of how our Church family will celebrate the Extraordinary Month of Mission. However you are welcome to celebrate it whatever way you wish! For some extra inspiration and more details on the month, we have prepared an EMM2019 Facts & Toolkit. Click here to download the Toolkit

    It’s Time to Get Involved!

To highlight that we’re all called to share God’s love, and to gather the energy of our Church family, Pope Francis is inviting individuals, schools, organisations, dioceses, parishes, communities, orders and congregations to get behind the EMM2019 campaign! Throughout August, September and October there are a number of easy ways to get involved…
