Just a thought….
In the early 1930’s, a Cork lady, Dr. Lea-Wilson presented the gift of a religious painting to the Jesuit Fathers in Lower Leeson St. Dublin. The panting, entitled ‘The Betrayal of Christ’ hung near the fireplace in the priests’ dining room for the next sixty years. When an Italian art expert was invited to do some restoration work on the painting in 1990, he discovered, to his amazement that the painting was, in fact, a masterpiece by the great seventeenth century Italian painter, Caravaggio. For sixty years, the treasure had gone unrecognised. The Eucharist is the most beautiful treasure we possess. When we gather to celebrate, Christ stands among us, speaks to us in his Word and nourishes with his Body and Blood. Heaven is hidden in a tiny host. It is one of the great tragedies of our time that for many, the Lord walks in our midst unrecognised. (Fr. Peter Burke)
